Capturing moments, naturally...
Born in Kuching and based in both KL and Kuching, Allen Tian is one of the top professional wedding photojournalists in Malaysia. Allen Tian specializes in wedding photography, destination photography, destination pre-wedding, engagement photography, actual day wedding photography, event photography, portrait photography with photojournalism styles. Over a decade, Allen Tian has been traveling to many places to witness and record events and love stories.
Allen Tian believes that every couple is special and have their own unique, sacred and personal love story, thus he works differently with each client to bring out their love uniqueness story rather than duplicating a general version of someone else’s wedding. Rather than needing the clients to excessively pose and ‘staged’, and to constantly smiling to the camera, Allen Tian encourages his clients to relax and enjoy the time with their own partner or family members; Allen Tian would work around capturing the natural moments.
In Allen Tian’s pictures you will be able to get a glimpse of genuine and natural emotions that just flown off the subject taken. Perhaps, you might be able to visualize the subject and scene coming to life as if you were there at the moment!
Relax, fun, natural,
not extremely posey photoshooting session
While Allen Tian demands the high quality result from his photography he also ensures that his clients are comfortable and having a good time, in a friendly photo-shooting atmosphere. Yes, sometimes artistic posing is needed, so Allen Tian will guide you through every step even if you never had professional portraits taken before.
Virtually every wedding or family portraits will require some forms or another posed images, this holds true even for a photojournalist photographer like Allen Tian. In such, the photo sessions of Allen would also include some numbers of posed images. These “formals pictures” may include family interaction, a group portrait photo of the bride, group portrait photo of groom with the groom’s family, photo with with the bride’s family, photos with the bridesmaid and groomsman, photos with the guests, etc for the wedding photography.
These formal, non-photojournalistic images will be done with editorial flair and can often be taken before or after the ceremony. While these photos may be posed or controlled, Allen Tian’s photos differ greatly from the stiff posing. There are great efforts to preserve the look of naturalness and spontaneity while keeping the photojournalistic spirit.
The Sigma 35mm f/1.4 Art prime lens, which is also known for near to what the eye sees in real life, always mounted on Allen Tian’s Nikon D750 Full Frame DSLR. The 35mm prime lens is a great tool to photograph candid shots and natural interactions between the couple and their loved ones, group portraits, maternity portraits, baby portraits, and beautiful moments, such as when the bride getting ready, myriad of accessories including the wedding dress, shoes and accessories, etc.
When situation permits, Allen would fade into the background with longer-than-normal Nikkor 85mm f/1.8 or Nikkor 70-200mm f/2.8 VRII telephoto lenses. Headshot photos, although taken from a distance are often crisp, with a strong emphasis on emotion and composition.

Since wide angle lenses are not his first choice, Allen would sparingly use the Nikkor 16-35mm f/4 or Sigma 24mm f/1.4 Art lens when the situation requires him to create a feeling of spaciousness, grandness and epic exaggeration.

Many of us love the small yet delicate details in our photos such as the birthday cake, gifts, wedding rings, the intricate design of the wedding gown, decorations of the event halls, etc. Allen’s specialty lenses like the Nikkor 105mm f/2.8 micro lens can fulfil the macro-photography preference. Through the use of this micro lens, Allen is able to accomplish macro photography by photographing these macro items with tack-sharp.
